Sprixi is back!

About a year ago we launched Sprixi – our image search engine – with a bang! We had over 70,000 visitors in a short period of time. Lots of visitors is a good thing, right? Of course!  But it also meant we had some challenges too. We particularly struggled with speed and some inappropriate content.

On a personal note, around the same time we moved house interstate, had a baby and other personal matters to deal with.

In the meantime, we’ve had a constant trickle of encouraging emails and comments on this blog that meant we absolutely had to come back and finish what we’ve started. It’s now so satisfying to finally announce that Sprixi is back!

Some things have changed:

  • Sprixi now filters out inappropriate search terms. This means better quality images for you and less moderation work for us. Safe search filtering is hard and we will continue to improve it.
  • Sprixi now runs much faster. Yay!
  • You now need to pay for Sprixi to use it. Huh? Really? Why?

We believe the best thing for Sprixi is to charge for it:

  • For us, it means we can dedicate more resources to improving Sprixi.
  • For you, it means a better experience, higher quality images and a reliable service.

We accept that charging for Sprixi will mean that there’ll be less people using Sprixi overall. However we look forward to satisfying a smaller group of customers well (rather than the entire internet not as well).

We’re proud of what we have achieved with Sprixi and we still think it’s the fastest and simplest way to choose and use an image online for your blog or presentation.

We would like to offer you three months Sprixi subscription at half-price, using this link www.sprixi.com?friend=2

Sprixi update

It’s going to take a while for us to be back up unfortunately.  At least 2 weeks.
I can’t give an estimate at the moment because I haven’t sat down and really figured out the best way to improve Sprixi.  My excuse is that my computer has been packed up in a box for a week as we are moving house and office back to Sydney.
That Sprixi took off over the festive season has really taken us by surprise!  Thanks for your support.

Sprixi is taking a break

Our thanks to everyone who has checked out Sprixi in the last few weeks.   Our extra thanks to those that have wrote about Sprixi on their blogs or sent us valuable feedback.   We appreciate it!

Please bear with us while we have some time offline.   With our large traffic levels Sprixi needs a performance boost.  We also want to improve the way we filter out inappropriate images.

We weren’t happy leaving Sprixi online as it was while we worked on this stuff.

Please subscribe to the blog feed to  know when we’re back.  Thanks for your patience!

Andrew

Well after months and months of hard work, Sprixi went live in September 2009.   A big thanks to Emily, David, Cal and Jaymis for the great result.
